PERANCANGAN MOTION GRAPHICS SEBAGAI PENDUKUNG PEMBELAJARAN SEJARAH TIPOGRAFI DASAR DKV KELAS X SMKN 2 BANDUNG

ABSTRAK

Tipografi, khususnya sejarah perkembangannya, merupakan salah satu materi esensial dalam mata pelajaran Desain Komunikasi Visual (DKV) yang kerap dianggap sulit dipahami oleh siswa SMK karena keterbatasan media pembelajaran yang digunakan guru. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang motion graphics sebagai media pendukung pembelajaran sejarah tipografi dasar bagi siswa kelas X SMKN 2 Bandung. Metode yang digunakan adalah mixed method dengan model concurrent embedded, yaitu menggabungkan data kualitatif (observasi, wawancara, dan studi literatur) dengan data kuantitatif (pre-test dan kuesioner), serta dianalisis melalui triangulasi sumber dan uji reliabilitas. Proses perancangan karya mengikuti tahapan Design Thinking yang mencakup empathize, define, ideate, prototype, dan testing. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa motion graphics dapat membantu siswa memahami sejarah tipografi secara lebih menarik. Media ini juga meringankan peran guru dalam penyampaian materi serta meningkatkan minat belajar siswa. Produk akhir berupa video motion graphics edukatif berhasil diwujudkan dan mendapat tanggapan positif dari siswa dan guru.

ABSTRACT

Typography, particularly its historical development, is a fundamental subject in Visual Communication Design (VCD) but is often difficult for students to grasp due to limited learning media. This study aims to design motion graphics as a supplementary medium for teaching basic typography history to 10th grade students at SMKN 2 Bandung. A mixed-method approach with a concurrent embedded model was applied, combining qualitative data (observation, interviews, literature study) and quantitative data (pre-test and questionnaires), analyzed through triangulation and reliability testing. The design process followed the stages of Design Thinking: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and testing. Findings indicate that motion graphics enhance students’ understanding of typography history, make learning more engaging, and support teachers in delivering material. The final product, an educational motion graphics video, was successfully developed and received positive feedback from both students and teachers.
