ABSTRACT

This study aims to design and build a virtual network based on SDN within the Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE), utilizing Open vSwitch (OVS) and the OpenDaylight (ODL) controller, and to evaluate Quality of Service (QoS) using key parameters such as rate limiter, throughput, packet loss, and forwarding rate. Proxmox is chosen for its centralized virtualization capabilities and clustering support, while OVS is used to manage traffic between virtual machines. ODL is selected as the controller due to its compatibility with open protocols such as OpenFlow and OVSDB, which are essential for managing OVS. The testing methodology involves using the iPerf3 tool to generate network traffic and analyze performance systematically. Additionally, testing includes database service access to simulate real-world application traffic commonly found in cloud environments. The inclusion of the forwarding rate parameter helps measure the system's ability to forward data packets per unit of time, providing a more comprehensive view of network performance. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the optimal implementation of SDN-based virtual networks in Proxmox environments, and serve as both a scientific and practical reference for developing QoS-based virtual networking systems that support diverse digital service demands.
